Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools (CCGPS) is teaching their students the spirit of generosity and the value of community. Students from across CCGPS are rallying to support the victims of the devastating bushfires across NSW in recent weeks.
The schools are keen to demonstrate their support for communities, hard-hit by bush-fire and together, have established The CCGPS Bushfire Appeal to collect monetary donations, vouchers, non-perishable food items, toiletries, new toys and books.
"We hope to provide much-needed items and help restore at least a little normality to the lives of so many, who have lost so much," said Marissa Floyd, Community Liaison Officer at Cessnock West Public School and coordinator for the project.
"As well as assisting those in need, we see this as an opportunity to work with our own community to instil the values of compassion and charity in our students", said Marissa. "Cessnock is a strong and caring community and we know the value of looking out for our neighbours; this is something I want my sons to learn", she said.
The School Community has already had many offers of support for the project, with Storage Kings coming on board to provide storage space free of charge for the items collected. The committee are also very grateful to both Sams Warehouse and The Reject Shop for their donations of large storage tubs. They welcome any offers from community to help collect and sort the items prior to delivery and hand-over.
Many of the schools will be hosting their own fund-raisers for the cause and students will have an opportunity to show their support for victims through letters and artworks to be hand-delivered by The CCGPS Bushfire Appeal committee.
If you have a donation of goods, please contact your local Public School to arrange drop-off.
