Other Opportunities

Students in our schools are given opportunities to participate in activities that combine knowledge and skills across a broad range of subjects, topics, experiences and opportunities. These include but are not limited to:

School Parliament
  • the Mayoral Academic Challenge
  • middle school programs where year 6 students are invited to their feeder high school to participate in hands-on lessons, eg. maths, science, textiles, formula 1
  • school parliaments
  • excursions, eg. Canberra/government, Bathurst/gold
  • selective classes for accelerating students in both primary and high schools
  • support classes for students with special learning needs
  • gifted and talented workshops, such as the Thirsty Thinkers Day
  • student representative councils
  • girls and boys programs
  • programs to involve dads in education
  • resuscitation courses
  • personal development and health lessons covering topics such as safe living, interpersonal relationships, personal health choices and growth and development
  • junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Groups (AECG)
  • programs such as Murder Under the Microscope

 

CCGPS high schools also offer many additional elective courses that include:

Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses are also available to HSC students in the CCGPS area. VET courses allow students to gain an HSC and an Australian Qualified Framework (AGF) at the same time, giving them an opportunity to learn in the workplace. VET courses offered in the CCPGS are:

  • construction
  • hospitality
  • information technology
  • metal and engineering
  • primary industries
  • retail services
